Privacy Policy

Last updated October 10, 2026

This policy explains what the WordCapy mobile app and this website collect, why, and who else handles it. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@wordcapy.com.

What we collect

You can use the app without creating an account. In that case your data is tied to an anonymous identifier stored on your device.

  • Account details. If you sign up, we store your name, your email address and a hashed form of your password. If you sign in with Apple or Google, they send us an identifier and the email address you chose to share.
  • Learning settings. The language you learn, the language you translate into, your level, the topics you picked, your daily goal, your review limits, your time zone and your display preferences.
  • Activity in the app. Which articles you open and how far you read, the words you save, how you rate each review card and when, your answers to the questions after an article, and whether you asked for more or less of a kind of article.
  • Notification token. If you turn on the daily reminder, we store the push token that lets us send it to your device, and the hour you chose.
  • Subscription status. Apple and Google handle payment. We receive whether you have an active WordCapy Pro subscription and when it renews or ends. We never see your card details.
  • Technical data. Our hosting providers log the IP address and basic device information of each request, as any server does.

The app does not contain advertising or third-party analytics. This website does not set advertising or analytics cookies; it remembers your language and theme in your browser's local storage.

How we use it

  • To show you articles at your level and on your topics, and to adjust the feed.
  • To schedule reviews of the words you saved and keep them in sync across devices.
  • To check written answers and suggest a different level when it would suit you.
  • To send the daily reminder, if you asked for one.
  • To unlock WordCapy Pro when you subscribe.
  • To find and fix problems, and to prevent abuse of the service.

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.

Who else handles it

These companies process data for us so that the app can work:

  • Convex hosts our database and backend, where your account and learning data are stored.
  • Cloudflare delivers article audio and images.
  • Google provides the AI models that write, translate and voice our articles. When you write an answer to a question, the text of that answer is sent to a Google model to be checked. We do not send your name or email with it.
  • RevenueCat tells us the status of your subscription.
  • Expo, together with Apple and Google, delivers push notifications.
  • Apple and Google process purchases made through the App Store and Google Play, under their own privacy policies.

These providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you use WordCapy. To have your account and everything attached to it deleted, write to hello@wordcapy.com from the email address on your account. We delete it within 30 days, apart from records we are legally required to keep.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, write to hello@wordcapy.com.

Children

WordCapy is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
